Nappy hair by carolivia herron5/10/2023 ![]() ![]() The colors are vibrant, they tell the story in pictures, and really give you the sense of understanding and loving that all the characters have for Brenda and her hair. Curly hair in general is hard to take care of, but this hair is in its own category. I don’t think this book would have turned out so great without the awesome illustrations. Some people don’t really understand nappy hair and how difficult it can be, but looking at this book you do feel sorry for Brenda. ![]() The best part of this story…the illustrations. ![]() It has a church-like feel with the preacher telling the story and the congregation responding. In the telling of the story, I really enjoyed how the people that are supposedly listening to Uncle Mordecai tell the story are also involved. By celebrating those things and making them something beautiful, Herron shows that its not something to be ashamed of, but proud. All children have little things that seem to be bad or a complication. All in all, he highlights all the complications of having nappy hair and makes them sound beautiful. He compares brushing her hair to the crunching sound made walking on fresh snow. He wanted her hair to be the nappiest hair the world has ever seen. How God made her hair nappy for a reason. Uncle Mordecai is telling the story of Brenda and her nappy hair. ![]() This is a crazy story about a little girl that has some crazy hair is awesome!! I say crazy in the most awesome form of the word I possible get. ![]()
